Ski, Snowboard & Mountain Bike instructor courses and improver camps

The best time of year to be in Whistler!

The Whistler Mountain Bike Coaches Course has kicked off and is in full swing, and what a start it has been! Lots of shredding, hot sunny days, and Crankworx has conveniently been an epic start also.

I took the crew up for a bit of an orientation day, should we say, on Wednesday. We checked out the village….the dirt jumps, skate park, this bar is good, this bike shop is good. That sort of thing. Somehow we managed a flat tyre and broken chain before we touched a chair lift. Whistler can be brutal on bikes, but that was a bit harsh! All sorted though, we picked up passes (always a good moment!) and got our shred on.We hit a load of the trails, getting our legs and heads around the dizzying amount of terrain on Whistler.

Thursday officially kicked off the training. Suspension set-up, bike maintenance and ride-fitness were the flavours of the first day. We also got up to the top to the “Roundhouse, checked out the view, and the ripped it on down.

Friday was all about cornering. And the best type of cornering….drifting! The guys started to learn some of techniques behind how to manage corners at speed, in the best environment to really feel whats going on with your traction…Some of the “fire-roads” usually reserved for the trucks driving up the hill. Loose and rough for sure!

A kick-ass Canadian BBQ, cooked by an Aussie. What could be better?  Inch and a half thick rib eyes in that mix! A few beers and some chill time was due on the weekend, and Crankworx had to be enjoyed too.Town is buzzing, the pros are everywhere, there is free stuff to be had, and the competitions and races are amazing.

At the time of writing its Sunday night, and there is a whole week of Crankworx about to start. It’s hard to beat this week of summer. Bring it on!
