While most of us have been enjoying the UK’s fabulous weather Tony and his group in Saas Fee have had to deal with pristine blue skies and soft grippy snow. Yet again Tony and his gang of trainees have had to suffer another week of perfect Autumn skiing conditions while we have to sit at home dealing with cold, wet and damp weather.
So apart from having perfect skiing conditions and working on their goggle tan (Fergus is winning and Abby is in a close second) the guys have been working really hard on their BASI level 1 syllabus, which focuses on the ‘central theme’. For those of you that don’t know what the central theme is: the ‘central theme’ is the building blocks for teaching an absolute beginner to ski or board. It is these ‘building blocks’ that the BASI level 1 exam is testing the guys on next week!
Obviously a lot of the guys are looking to work as instructors this coming winter so Tony has been hard at work organising talks from potential employers and helping the trainees put together a strong CV and cover letter. So far they’ve had ‘job’ sessions from head instructors and ski school owners from a number of well-known schools and camps in Switzerland. Their advice was greatly appreciated by the trainees who have been busy hammering away at their laptops ever since!
Nevertheless, passing the level 1 exam is the big focus for all of the trainees over the next few days, so they’ve literally been burying their heads in their BASI manuals; revising all of the correct terminology an teaching progressions.

Bosh (the course David Blaine) manages to read his manual whilst levitating, much to the surprise of the local girl in the bottom left corner!
In other news the “falling over” fund finally got its first donation from Keith (the racer charmer) Parmley. Unfortunately for Keith it was a triple fine for falling over and losing a ski whilst being filmed. Keith’s logic being that if you’re going to fall over it might as well be a good one!
So now for the moment you’ve all been waiting for! The answers to Tony’s questions from last week’s blog:
Will Sam remain unbeaten at table tennis? YES – (Although a weakness in his backhand has been spotted.
Does Kristian (Bosh) know every single line of The Office? NO – he just repeats the same ones!
Does Fergus know everyone in Saas Fee? It appears he does!
Why is Serena called Poppy? Answers on a post card please.
