SAAS FEE 2018 – WEEKS 8&9

It’s game time! The Peak Leaders have been working hard for the past 7 weeks to get to this point and now only the BASI level 2 exam lies between them and their dream job!

The trainees now have to put into practice all the skills that they have spent the last few weeks learning and perfecting. Will and Jake have given everyone their final bit of feedback and with that in mind they head towards the exams!

For the past few weeks the team has been focused but also relaxed (an important skill!) and this group of Peak Leaders have bonded so well that they’re all amazing friends now. Whilst they know that the next two weeks of skiing are very important they’re always up for a laugh whatever the weather!

The BASI trainers Will (different Will!) and Jon put everyone through their paces over the exam but of course their main goal is to improve everyone as much as possible so that they reach the BASI level 2 standard. So that means a lot of skiing time but also vitally it means that they give individual feedback to each trainee so they get the chance to work out how they can change their skiing and improve.

The conditions for the exam were excellent most days and whilst it was cold and occasionally overcast their were some really sunny days so that everyone got a great opportunity to ski loads. And even better the team got to go up the Mountain by chairlift. Happy days!

The BASI level 2 exam can be tough at times as there is a lot to do and whilst 2 weeks sounds like a long time it goes by very quickly. So every now and again it’s important to open the curtains, take a deep breath, and appreciate what an awesome place Saas Fee is…

Midway through the course the Peak Leaders have a weekend to unwind and get some well earned rest. This is crucial so that they can perform to their best for week 2 of the exam. They’ve had a full on week beforehand and even though they all trained like demons during fitness sessions their legs need to recharge so they can go again from Monday. A break is always a good thing…especially if it looks like this.

Week 2 of the course always flies by as everyone has a clearer idea of how the trainers want them to ski. Each person can focus on their own individual feedback and work on the changes they need to make. And then, just like that, it is results day on Friday!

Congratulations to everyone for completing the course and for being such an awesome bunch of trainees. And so after a few celebratory drinks on Friday, bags are packed and the team are off to various resorts in Japan, Switzerland and the USA to enjoy an amazing winter season working as a ski instructor!
