Why Choose This Course?

'Being relative new comers to mountain bike leader training, Peak Leaders looked to have nailed this on the head. This course, the first of its kind, offers a serious opportunity for those mountain bikers turning a past time into a profession. And what better, 6 weeks in Verbier: awesome trails, full time professional coaching, superb accommodation, great hospitality, and a recognised qualification to boot. I wish they would have done it 10 years ago!' Pete Coddington CTC Trainer Leader

You will spend six weeks riding the 200kms of marked trails in Verbier and Val des Bagnes including the Verbier Bike Park and epic loops on unforgettable Alpine terrain. After a couple of days acclimatisation, you’ll be straight into the CTC Trail Leader Award, (formerly OTC Level 1 ) with a CTC Tutor. The Trail Leader Award introduces guiding concepts and skills which will be developed throughout the camp and continued in the Technical Leader Award. For the next 4 weeks you will be under the expert guidance of our Peak Leaders course leader who will improve your riding and knowledge, whilst showing you some of the best terrain in the Alps! You’ll gain some real guiding experience by leading groups from the les Elfes international summer camp in Verbier and other summer camps in the region.  Do a 1st Aid Course and Mtb maintenance and suspension clinics. You can also do the Institute of Leadership and Management NVQ Level 4 Award in Leadership, before finishing with the CTC Technical Leader Award (formerly OTC Level 2) in week 6, leaving you fully prepared for a career in mountain biking!

Who is the Verbier Mountain Bike Technical Leader Course for?

Peak Leaders Mountain Bike Instructor Courses are designed for people who love mountain biking and would like to make a career out of it, working in the travel/leisure industry. We recommend that before embarking on the Mountain Bike Leadership Award Scheme you are confident on a mountain bike. You must be comfortable on single track and have started to tackle steeper sections and roots or rocks to get the most out of the Camp. Using our structured training programme with regular video analysis, our expert instructors will help you to develop your skills throughout the camp and your skills and confidence will improve with each day!  The Trail Leader Award course will equip you to guide beginners on gentle terrain and give you the core guiding skills that you will develop in the Technical Leader Award. Peaks Trainee makes GB Telemark Team

Ex Peaks trainee, Jack Harvard Taylor (Argentina 2008) has recently made the GB Telemark Team. Jack, who's currently studying Business at Bristol University will be competing this winter in Europe and America. Jack says, 'Going on Peak Leaders Argentina course has been a life changing experience. Not only bringing my skiing up to an instructor level I have gained valuable experience from legendary course leader Ed Cornfield in areas such as: leadership, motivation and many other life skills. As well as gaining a whole range skills and qualifications I have made friends for life who I spent last season with instructing skiing in Verbier, Switzerland.'   For further information on Jack or the GB Telemark Team check out http://gbtelemark.co.uk/

Testimonial

I was 32 years of age and bored to death with the 9 to 5 lifestyle; needed to feel alive again and the plan was to take a season out of work and be a ski bum for a year. Whilst looking through a ski magazine trying to get up to date on what skies I should be looking for I came across an ad for Peak Leaders’ which caught my eye. So why bum in France for a year when I could go to Canada and become a ski instructor. After a couple of calls to Dave and Annie of Peak Leaders I was booked.

With out a doubt it was the best decision I had ever made. Thanks to Dave and Annie I have made some great friends who I will all ways stay in touch with, from traveling around South America, teaching skiing at the same hill, sailing around the Greek islands or just meeting up in London for drinks and to remains about the 9 weeks we spent together. I came away with my level 2 ski instructor, avalanche awareness, back country training I have to say was the highlight of the trip for me, first aid and the most memorable 9 weeks of my life.

To date (Nov 05) this is the start of my second season teaching in Canada. I am now a level 3 CSIA ski instructor and a Level 1 CASI snowboard instructor, (yes, the dark side my friends.) So for the next five months I’ll be sliding down a hill on a tray or I’ll have two planks strap-ed to my feet. I feel so lucky to be part of such a wonderful sport and I intend to carry on teaching each winter for a long time. I hope this little letter may help some of you come to a decision to sign up to Peak Leaders and have the time of your lives. If I can help answer any questions you may want to ask being some one who has done the course I would be more than happy to (mikekindred2004@yahoo.co.uk) or just to say hi that's cool
