Peak Leaders Zermatt

Zermatt - the best European ski resort in "Where to Ski & Snowboard 05." Zermatt has an unbeatable combination of scenery, extensive high snow-sure slopes and wonderful mountain restaurants. The Zermatt course has been endorsed by BASI and the local official ski school to help create a pool of instructors for future employment in Switzerland. Ralph Schmidhalter, ski school manager, selects his top instructors to coach Peakleaders' trainees.

The Resort

Zermatt offers an endless variety of activities for weekends, see zermatt.ch. Some highlight are sledging, curling, ice-skating, concerts and spas. As evening activities go, Zermatt has plenty of bars and an endless number of restaurants that serve food ranging from traditional Swiss meals up to crocodile steaks with a pint of Guinness!  Zermatt is absolutely car-free which means that only electric cars and horse sledges cruise around the town. Peaks trainees favourite bars are the Puberlapub and the Schneewitchen. They attract young locals and tourists and have special events every night of the week. As well as these there are numerous other bars and venues that offer all kinds of music and prices.

The mountain village of Zermatt has long been a great ski, snowboard and climbing centre. It's a deeply historical village nestled in a valley enclosed between high mountains dominated by the iconic pyramid of the Matterhorn (4478 metres). From the moment you step off the connecting train and catch sight of the cobbled streets and horse drawn sleighs, you know you are in a special place. What can strike you is the quiet - no cars here. The main street, however, bustles with pedestrians walking between the chalets and adjacent ancient barns that are full of cattle off the hill pastures for the winter.

Many mountain restaurants have picture post card views of the Matterhorn's North and East faces and are authentic old chalets. They are cosy with fantastic mountain food and that unique Swiss atmosphere - the sounds of yodeling and Alpenhorn are distinct possibilities. In Zermatt après is plentiful. There are bars, restaurants and night-spots to suit every taste and pocket. Truly cosmopolitan, Zermatt has an easy, relaxed atmosphere.
