Qualify as a Ski or Snowboard instructor in New Zealand on a Peak Leaders course!
It’s no secret that Queenstown is where the World goes to ride during summer in the Northern Hemisphere. Winter in Queenstown is one long party that kicks off with the opening of Coronet Peak in the middle of June and ends when the locals can’t find any more snow to shred.
Peak Leaders offer instructor training courses down in Queenstown due to the amazing facilities and varied terrain on offer. Our courses offer trainee instructors more bang for their buck and have, over time, become the most complete instructor training course available in New Zealand. Peak Leaders have been running ski and snowboard courses down in Queenstown for nine years and the feedback we’ve received is constantly awesome.
Both the Ski and Snowboard qualifications on offer are accredited by the New Zealand Snowsports Instructor Association, NZSIA for skiers and SBINZ for Snowboarders. Within the Snowsports world these qualifications are highly regarded by all other nations, especially in the US.
Peak Leaders partner with the NZ Ski who offer our trainees world class on-hill facilities and an intense course of instructor training which takes place at both Coronet Peak and The Remarkables ski resorts. During the 9 week course trainees are coached on average four days a week at both Coronet Peak and the Remarkables with exams falling at the middle and the end of the course. Both mountains are so highly regarded that it’s not uncommon to see the Worlds best racers training on Coronet Peak and the Worlds best freestylers cruising through the Remarkables snowboard park.
Nevertheless enlisting in a snowboard or ski instructor course in New Zealand isn’t just about training to be an instructor it is also about having the time to explore the beautiful scenery, ski and snowboard the jump line and rails at Cardrona and Snow Park, heli-ski the Harris Mountains….and if you’re brave-enough; throwing yourself off a 140m high platform with a giant elastic band attached to your legs.
All skiers and snowboarders that attend the Peak Leaders instructor course down in New Zealand will be lucky-enough to stay at the 3* Coronet Peak Hotel. Trainees will benefit from en suite rooms, a hot tub, a bar, Queensland’s only bowling alley, a ski/snowboard servicing room and hearty well-cooked meals for breakfastand dinner! No other training provider in Queenstown offers accommodation of the same quality to its trainees.

Our course leader and office team will help you to apply for instructor jobs while in resort. Peak Leaders have contacts at ski and snowboard schools all over the World and really strong relationships with a vast array of ski and snowboard schools around the World that provide our trainees with instructor training.

COURSE OUTLINE
This is a stand-out aspect of this course!
Why settle for anything less? We stay in a 3 star hotel and include Breakfast and dinner 7 days a week. There's a bar, restaurant, gym, internet, tuning room and bowling alley in your home away from home for the season!!

At Queenstown we do not use hostel or self catering accommodation, meaning you can concentrate on the course, and are free of the hassle of groceries (supermarket shopping is expensive in QT) and shared-kitchen cooking at the end of the day. This is why we believe our course offers the best value for money!
Breakfast is buffet-style, with hot stuff, fruit salad, cereals, toast and fruit juices! - just what you need for the intense training on the hill. Dinner is a pre chosen dish of the day, or Asian Buffet. The meals are two courses and are of a very high standard.
You stay in the superb Coronet Peak Hotel – closest hotel to New Zealand's premier ski-field, Coronet Peak and within easy driving distance of The Remarkables. The short 10 minute drive from Queenstown’s town centre is covered by hourly free shuttles. Rooms are 3 person and have en-suite bathrooms with bath and shower, tea and coffee making facilities, refrigerator, radio and colour TV with Sky. We also hang out in the bar, the restaurant, the spa, the bowling alley and an area affectionately know as "couches".
The hotel has wireless facilities, and plug-in wireless in your room! This is payable at the hotel for a very modest fee.
The tuning room has been especially installed for Peak Leaders and the course leader will show you all aspects of sharpening, waxing and repairing you gear. It’s there to use anytime- to keep your kit "sweet as" as the kiwis say.
The course leader lives in the hotel and so can help you out with anything you need (and give you a score to try to beat in the bowling alley).
The hotel and its facilities make this course stand out!!
Coronet Peak and The Remarkables are incredible resorts, each with their own special unique aspects. Both offer amazing skiing and boarding. Imagine being able to go to these resorts every day!
Peak Leaders partner with the NZ Snow Academy using Coronet Peak for the majority of the training along with many trips to The Remarkables. Both mountains are owned by the same company and use the same lift pass. Coronet Peak is renowned for some of the best, most consistent and varied terrain in Australasia. It hosts the FIS Southern Cup (ski slalom & giant slalom) and is the choice of the NZ national race team for training. There are two terrain parks: one with loads of different rails, boxes and jumps, and one with several smaller jumps and a halfpipe. Even when the sun goes down the action never stops; night Skiing (exclusive to Coronet Peak) allows skiers and riders to continue into the night.
The Remarkables offers both exciting freeride faces and chutes and (new in 2007) a multi-million dollar investment to upgrade their terrain park by building a superpipe, big and small jumps a wall ride and a wide range of rails and boxes. They also host The Stash at The Remarkables which is only the third run of its kind worldwide and the first in the Southern Hemisphere.
Created by Jake Burton and the Burton team riders, The Stash is an evolution of freestyle terrain in the ultimate natural environment. The kilometer long run provides riders with an organic, big mountain terrain park that follows the natural lines of the mountain.
Both mountains are well known for their infra-structure and professionalism. On Coronet Peak and the Remarkables we are hosted by NZSKI, the biggest mountain resort operator in NZ. Peak Leaders is delighted to be working with this top company and their world class instructors and facilities.
You are provided with a full season pass to both resorts!
There is an option to take trip to Snow Park where we'll spend a few days, one of the world's best ski and snowboard terrain parks, you might end up sharing a lift with Mikkel Bang, Danny Davis or Tanner Hall. A trip to New Zealand isn't complete if you've not been to Snow Park.
Heli-Trip Option
Heli-skiing (or boarding!) is definitely one of the most amazing experiences you can ever have. Get lifts up to the top, and ride back down, then do it again!
The most common comment after a days heli-skiing is " I don't know what was better, the ride down the mountain, or up in the chopper!" This combo of flying in a helicopter and accessing New Zealand’s best backcountry slopes makes the heli skiing a day to remember. If you opt to give it a go you will also get a lunch for a king, set on an ice-table. A cold beer is recommended back at the hotel to reminisce.
Don't worry if you've never skied/ridden in powder. You will have improved by the time we go, and there are also always easy terrain options that won't be a problem for anyone. Amazing!

After the exams are done and dusted, you can opt to spend a couple of days at Snowpark! We'll get training for all levels of rider/skier, by the best freestyle coaches and pros around.
Snow Park is New Zealands' largest and most extensive terrain park. It has features to suit all levels and abilities. By the time you get to the later part of the course you should be a much stronger skier or rider, and ready to have some freestyle fun with the confidence and skills you've gained.
The freestyle coaches at Snow Park are the best at what they do, and will show you the basics of freestyle, park ettiquette and safety.
Snowpark is dedicated purely to freestyle, and you'll find Jumps, rails, and a worldclass superpipe, all for your enjoyment.
Queenstown is where the action is in New Zealand! Winter in Queenstown is one long party that kicks off with the opening of Coronet Peak ski resort. Queenstown is the "adventure capital of the world": you can bungee jump, heli-ski, sky-dive, luge, horse-ride, ice-skate, jet boat - and of course ski and ride till you drop! The list goes on and on. We'll organise these optional extras with you so you can take advantage of these once in a lifetime opportunities.

We didn't choose a small clubfield with limited activities to do - you might only come to New Zealand once, so we wanted you to be at the heart of the action! Queenstown is extremely popular with backpackers resulting in plenty bars, restaurants, cafes, shops and clubs. The crew often becomes regulars in many of the bars, and you could almost say, locals.

In September, The Remarkables Spring Festival is a riot of snow sports and crazy events. The Queenstown Big Air is always a good night. Another highlight is the annual Birdman competition; Involving people throwing themselves off Queenstown Pier, dressed up and in the most ridiculous contraptions you can imagine all in the name of a laugh.

The NZSIA and SBINZ are regarded world wide as leaders in Snowsports Instruction. They are progressive and innovative in their approach to training. They are recognised worldwide. You'll complete the Level 1 (previously named the CSI), and nearing the end of the course, the Level 2 (previously named Stage 1). Other qualifications and certificates offered are the Avalanche Awareness, First Aid and ILM. These will give any resume are boost, and put you a head above in many positions.
We offer more hours on snow than many of our competitors. We feel that 3 days training a week is not sufficient to give you maximum opportunity to improve, that's why we do more! You'll also be in groups with people of similar ability to you, to enable you to progress as much as possible.
We pride ourselves in offering certification in aspects above and beyond the snowsports qualifications, so preparing you for a variety of jobs.
The NZSIA/SBINZ Level 2 is equivalent to CSIA/CASI 2 and BASI 2. It can be used worldwide. France and Italy are two countries which require their own certification – call the office for the most up to date advice if you would like to know more.
Peak Leaders run professional courses which deliver more all mountain technical training and skills than anyone else. After three years of intense assessment, Peak Leaders UK Ltd are members of the exclusive "Year Out Group"; the governing body for structured year out opportunities.
Level 1 With this certificate you will be able to teach adults and children from first timer to wedge turning, understand the teaching model and the learning processes, analysis of these levels, technical information and demonstrating at these levels, class handling and safety as well as personal improvement.
Level 2 Instructor: Trainees teach the progression from beginner to parallel turn, work on improving personal skiing skills, demonstrations, apply skier/boarder movement analysis and lesson planning.
Level 1- With this level you'll learn how to teach first timers in a fun and safe environment. It focuses on class handling, learning styles and guest service elements.
Level 2 Instructor: Teaching all aspects of progressions through to linking turns, edged turns, and basic freestyle. Training also involves movement analysis of students, and strong free-riding ability

You will learn to recognise the conditions under which avalanches take place and how to avoid them! You also learn what to do in an emergency situation if an avalanche occurs. This gives the essential knowledge and skills to feel confident with a guide in the backcountry away from marked trails and patrolled areas. This module provides essential training for powder-hungry skiers and riders and covers avalanche theory, snow stability and search and rescue techniques. There will be classroom sessions and practical work on the mountain.
The Emergency First Aid course covers: emergency action principles; airway and breathing emergencies; cardiovascular emergencies/strokes; CPR; bleeding management; shock and prevention of disease transmission.

Peak Leaders have the amazing opportunity to provide trainees with training and certification through the ILM. It will provide a huge insight and knowledge into what it takes to be a leader in any profession. Great for the resume!
