HOW TO GET A CANADIAN WORK VISA
GET A JOB IN CANADA THIS SEASON
Whilst European employment opportunities have changed for British instructors, you can still get a job in Japan or Canada.
The big thing is the application – getting your paper work in early enough to have your VISA ready for the season.
Plus you need to get qualified.
The great news is that Canadian VISA applications can be done until the end of August…
Here’s how you do it.
THE PLAN
It’s vital to be clear on what needs to happen and when. (And note that this blog is published in early-August).
The season is closer than you think and you need to act now if you want to get a Visa, get qualified and get a job.
So there are three priorities if you want to be teaching skiing by the time the starts:
1. APPLY FOR A VISA
2. GET QUALIFIED
3. APPLY FOR A JOB
3. APPLY FOR A JOB
The Visa process is not quick, and you need to get your skates on.
Meanwhile qualifications are straight forward – you can simply book on to our Saas Fee course to train for and take your BASI 1 and 2.
On the course – and even before it starts – we help trainees to apply to ski resorts for instructor jobs and we have ski schools that guarantee interviews for our trainees. Crucially some Canadian ski schools will recruit even if you haven’t yet passed your exams yet.

1. APPLYING FOR A CANADIAN VISA
You need to start now. And we mean as soon as you’ve finished reading this blog…
You can just click this link to get started. It’s called the IEC scheme (International Experience Canada) and if you’re British you will be applying for a Working Holiday Visa.
Essentially with a UK passport and proof of $2,500 in savings you can get started. But it’s not a simple process.
2. GET YOUR SKI TEACHING QUALIFICATIONS
Your best bet for getting qualified before the season is to take your BASI 1 and 2 in Saas Fee.
The course is eight weeks and is run by our excellent team – most of whom are BASI examiners, these are the best coaches and because they run these exams themselves they really know how to get you to the standard – and beyond.
3. GET A JOB IN CANADA ARRANGED
Crucially during your course you will be getting bags of support and you can apply for jobs with our contacts in Canada.
In fact, as soon as your booking is received you can access our Members Area with all the advice and lists of ski schools who guarantee interviews to all Peak Leaders trainees and will offer jobs to strong candidates.
And Canadian ski schools are usually happy to accept trainees before they pass their exams on the assumption they will pass.
But even if you don’t pass all of the BASI 2 (the course assesses both technical and teaching skills), you might still be able to go out and start work.
