Morzine Ski & Snowboard Instructor Course – The Final Week
We weren’t exactly blessed with good weather on the penultimate week of the course in Morzine, which wasn’t ideal for the first week of the BASI level 2 exam. Nevertheless the guys and girls dug deep and learnt as much as they could from trainers Dave and Simon.
For the final week of the course the weather didn’t improve much but we had a substantial amount of snowfall which made the piste grippier and easier to ride/ski. Despite being in Morzine for 9 weeks and training almost every day the trainees still had a lot to learn and improve so the last 5 days of training were intense and the trainees went through a whole range of emotions together.
For the last couple of days of the BASI level 2 exam the sun decided to show its face and the vast majority of the trainees made the changes that they needed to make. Nevertheless, a number of the trainees left it to the 11th hour to pass, in particular Joe; who had to start hitting the bigger jumps in the park to pull success from jaws of defeat. Nice one mate!!
After a very hectic couple of weeks the trainees retired to Bar Robinson on Friday afternoon to find-out whether they’d made the grade and to drink a few Mutzig’s whatever their result. Come 2pm it was amazing to hear from the trainees that all of the skiers had passed and that nearly all of the snowboarders had passed the level 2 exam. Although Cookie and Sam missed-out on passing the technical side of the exam they’re both planning on staying in the Alps for the next few weeks and taking a week-long re-sit in Austria.
That evening the trainees turned up to their final meal a little inebriated after spending the afternoon in Robbo’s. After another tasty dinner, courtesy of Ken and the team at chalet Eira, it was time for a Champagne reception up in the bar. Everybody got involved and Jaz, Tammy, Dave, Si and Adele (the trainers) all turned up to say goodbye to the guys and girls. That night everybody definitely partied pretty hard…….but what happens on tour must stay on tour!
I wish all of the guys the best of luck for the future, whether they choose to instruct or not. Morzine 2013 was a fantastic course and I definitely feel as though I’ve made some friends for life……..even if they did delete from their Facebook friend list……..Cookie!
