Whistler Mountain Bike Coaches Hiring Camp – The Last Week
So this years Whistler Hiring Camp is finished and a load of new Bike Park Instructors have passed their IDP Level 1 & 2 over the weekend and are ready to start working as guides and instructors for the summer! Before beginning the assessment a pretty intensive week of training on the A-Line 2 module set the guys up for success, with 3 full days spent analysing jumps, then drops and finally high speed cornering. More importantly the trainees also spent these 3 days leaning how to teach and explain each skill. The evening sessions were spend looking at the theory behind these skills, (time for a physics lesson!) and ways to analyse a riders movements.
As usual Wednesday saw the second round of #WhipoffWednesday with a noticeable improvement in sideways action on display! Saturday and Sunday morning were spent being assessed, with the guys having to demonstrate coaching each of the A-line 2 skills. Some early nervousness was soon replaced with confidence as each skill was successfully taught and appraised by the coaches. The last step was the personal jumping demo and drop amplitude test, which the guys sailed through with style despite the pressure being on!
Finally on Sunday afternoon we all got special permission to take the gondola to the top of the Garbanzo zone (two weeks before anyone else!) and get really loose riding down the ski pistes in the snow! A great laugh and many crashes ensued before a well deserved BBQ and celebratory drink at the chalet in the evening to round off a fantastic 3 weeks!
