Bariloche looking epic pre season…

Colo Ziffer, our intrepid Patagonian mountain guide and long time Peak Leader liason in Bariloche, has sent a pre-season blog on all the happenings in South America for our ski instructor gap course in Argentina.

Holà Colo here from a cold and snowy Cerro Catedral!

Cerro Catedral looking snowy already

With not long to go until the start of the Peak Leaders ski instructor gap course in Bariloche, here’s an update on how things are shaping up.

Snow, snow, and more snow

If you’re not already excited, then you should be because the good news is… it’s been dumping snow.

The resort of Cerro Catedral is experiencing the best early season conditions of the last five years!

With more cold weather on the way, and more snow, powder smiles all day is the forecast for the opening on June 20th.

Resort improvements

This summer has seen plenty of work on the pistes.

Rock clearing for smoother riding has been the name of the game.

All of which means with so much early snow the renowned freeride terrain should be epic!

Cat skiing and freestyle events

Along with the terrain up in resort, the two dedicated freeride resorts for cat skiing – Baguales and Mallin Alto – are also filling up with freshies.

Meanwhile, the terrain park up in Catedral is once again going to be showcasing South America’s best freestyle events: the Reef Brazil Boardercross, Rip Curl Freestyle Cup, and the Chicas Only Freestyle and Slopestyle.

World’s best ski instructors

Sure we’ve got the Peak Leaders crew – the world’s “next” best ski instructors! – but this year also sees the International Ski Instructors Association bring the “best of the best” instructors from 36 ski instructor associations to the resort of Ushuaia, Argentina, for Interski 2015.

Roy Henderson, BASI Product Manager, gives the lowdown on Interski 2015

This event gives ski instructors (and other disciplines) a chance to share knowledge, methodologies and go head-to-head on the “demo slope” with some high-speed synchro action.
