ST ANTON 4 WEEK SKI INSTRUCTOR COURSE 2015: BEST SNOW IN THE ALPS (WEEK 4)
Week 4 in St Anton, Austria and our group has finished the Anwärter course. Here’s Tom group leader on the St Anton ski instructor course 2015 with all the news…
4 weeks has gone fast!
End of the 4 week ski instructor course here in St Anton, and a great time to reflect on all that’s happened.
Happy times in the warm lifts on the way up
Unfortunately, not everyone got the result they hoped for in the Anwärter exam – like all the ski and snowboard exams on a Peak Leaders course it’s run by an outside association, and is pass/fail – so we partied and consoled in equal measure.
Some of those that didn’t pass still managed to find other jobs in St Anton for the season that aren’t teaching based, and for that did pass a uniform and lessons were already waiting for them at the Ski School Arlberg.

More snow than other resorts
St Anton is certainly one of the few resorts in Europe with great snow cover.
It’s possible to ski down to the village and with the overnight snowmaking new areas and lifts are opening all the time.
Not many resorts look as good as St Anton – with skiing possible all the way to the village
80s and still rocking
One of my personal highlights was seeing the Beach Boys.
Considering that some of those guys are in there 80’s they certainly still know how to rock an Ischgl opening party – impressive!!

Speaking about the 80’s – another musical highlight was Kim Wilde in St Anton for our resorts opening party … amazing performance!
Moonlight shadow
The moonlight ski tour was certainly a new experience for the group.
Telling them that they were going to climb up the mountain rather than the gondola definitely surprised a few of them.
However the trainees stepped up to the challenge (literally and physically!) and were keeping up with our ski coaches.
Some have even been thinking of doing more ski tours, and are looking into becoming a mountain guide in the future.
We climbed this … moonlight ski tour fantastic in St Anton
We are the Champions
The pub quiz champion (unfortunately) didn’t get crowned because people were so focused on the Anwärter course.
However, it is only fair that as Charlie won the most he deserves to be crowned “Champion”.
There might be time for a few more awards too …
“Best hair” goes to Ben Lees with his peach smelling shampoo, “Best singing” to Charlie Newport with his football chanting (which can’t be repeated) and “Queen of squats” to Katie Colclough who reigned supreme in the fitness room.
Exhausted by the fitness room sessions …
Where next?
As mentioned, the crew has dispersed already – and for me, I am back home for now with the family and friends, but can’t wait to pack my bags again for the Morzine 10 week ski and snowboard course.
Last thing to say is: Merry Christmas to everyone from St Anton and good luck with everything in the coming New Year!
