MORZINE 10 WEEK SKI & SNOWBOARD INSTRUCTOR COURSE 2016: OPENING WEEK TRAINING AND ICE BREAKERS (WEEK 1)
Morzine and the Portes du Soleil is the perfect resort to spend a 10-week ski instructor training course. What’s included? A lift pass to one of the largest ski areas on the planet, 25 hours on snow development a week, BASI Level 1 & Level 2 exams and resources, BASI Trainers and BASI Level 4s training you on the hill, first aid course, avalanche awareness course, ski school shadowing and experience, freestyle clinics and a freeride day in Chamonix…
This year we have a diverse group of trainees from different backgrounds and countries; 3 snowboarders, Nick, Georgie and Jake and 8 skiers Quentin, Linda, Jon, Gus, Freddie, Kelly, Hannah and Emily.
Our future ski instructors know how to have fun!
The trainees participated in some ice breakers and fun with 3 and 5 legged races and some blindfolded group art…some of our trainees will need to work a little harder on their 3 legged skills, but we feel confident that they will rise to the challenge ;) …a great laugh had by all!
On Sunday night, the trainees met head coaches Tammy from the amazing Mint Snowboarding (read more about the Mint Snowboarding team here) and Jaz from the awesome Bass Ski School. An inspiring and motivational chat from both instructors and the trainees were definitely geared up to start to head up the mountain and start a great week of training.
The first week of training focused on technique and the standard of skiing and snowboarding needed for instructor level, while also preparing for BASI Level 1 next week. The trainees worked hard to improve style and get stronger and better on the mountain, and even finding some time to get loose with some freestyle moves in the Park.
The skiers had a full on week with Jaz and the BASS crew impressed right from the start with a very informative, professional and friendly brief. Jaz worked the trainees on building a solid foundation of balance to progress throughout the course.
Supporting the local sports teams
Work hard play hard though…and the trainees enjoyed some local sport with Morzine and Avoriaz’s famous Ice Hockey team playing against the Grenoble Wolves. After a strong start by Morzine going 2-0 in the first period it finished 8-4 to Grenoble. A high scoring game with a lot of action, and great fun to support the local team. Some of the trainees even cheering on with a horn. We will be there throughout the season cheering on the penguins!!
Basi level 1 is now underway for both the skiers and snowboarders. After speaking with the crew and their trainers everything is on-course for a successful week…….fingers crossed!
Stay tuned.
