Morzine 10 week ski & snowboard instructor course 2016 – WEEK 6
Week 6 of the Morzine 10 week ski & snowboard instructor course has been a big week with freestyle coaching from pro-riders, surviving the British and French half term holidays! Here’s group leader Tom with the update…
A huge week in terms of half term holidays, the trainees spent a lot of time shadowing and getting the hours in for their BASI Level 2. An experience and a half, as the mountain conditions pose a challenge with so much more traffic than usual, and keeping everyone on their toes with regards to safety, but all great experience and valuable lessons learned for becoming future instructors.
The snowboarders had an epic day riding with Ross Nickham, a Burton Pro-Rider from the UK. Always awesome to ride with pros, pick up tips and soak up the experience, and a bluebird day to boot. The trainees and Ross agreed to get some fun laps in and hit the side features available, then head into The Stash and snow park where Ross was able to demonstrate his skills and show why he is a sponsored rider. The Stash is an area in Avoriaz where the features are built in the trees, making the run have more of a natural flow.
The skiers had a session with George Walton, a sponsored Line and Marker pro rider, working on their freestyle moves in the park and on the mountain. The park was a new experience for the skiers, trying something different. George encouraged them to get rad on the park features, trying 360s and box sliders. A few bruises the next day on the hips and legs, but proud battle scars nonetheless, lots of smiles and a great day out!
Next week the trainees will continue their journey, everyone will start their Basi Level 2 course!
