Morzine 10 week ski & snowboard instructor course 2016 (WEEK 7)
Week 7 of the Morzine 10 week ski & snowboard instructor course and the group wrap up the shadowing process, with extensive real client experience and some fun celebrating trainee Kelly’s birthday the American way…Here’s group leader Tom with the update…
Another terrific week for our skiers and snowboarders, with perfect conditions for training and getting more comfortable with bumps for the BASI Level 2. The trainees also enjoyed Kelly’s birthday, celebrating a traditional American themed day; steak and pancakes for dinner…and…an arm wrestling match…haha!! Much to Kelly’s dismay however, no win for her, but a rematch has been agreed at the end of the course, better get your guns in shape Kelly ;)
The trainees have exceeded expectations with shadowing, achieving way more than the stipulated 70hours needed to pass BASI level 2, some of them ended up finishing with 120 hours…how’s that for impressive, well done guys! The group are now well prepared and have experience ranging from little ripper snowboarders at 4 years old, to a Geordie holiday group learning to ski for the first time, with exceptional feedback, which will hold them well for the exam.
The trainees also want to give a massive shout out and thanks to the awesome instructors at Mint and BASS, guiding them through the process with patience and encouragement, and getting the most from the course, thanks guys!!
Saturday saw the trainees try something a little different, the goal was to get as much mileage as possible under the belt and ski places that push the limits and get them out of their comfort zone. Trainee Hannah mentioned “I thought I was on a roller coaster coming down there, scary but exciting.” For the purposes of the blog, we’ve omitted the excitable expletives, but you catch our drift..haha :) On top of all that, some of the trainees put their previous weeks experience to the test and pulled some 360s on the soft snow, Freddie nailed it and was beaming on arrival back to the chalet, we love to see our trainees confidence boosted!
As a treat, the trainees went to see BAFTA winning film The Revenant in English, however some of the subtitles were still in French, so the trainees got a little French education out of it as well…everydays a school day!
Next week is a big one, with the Valle Blanche trip coming up; a sizeable 20km long run, descending 2700m in Chamonix…weeeee!
