SAAS FEE 2017 – WEEK 4

We now officially have a team of ski instructors after the successful completion of BASI level 1. It was an action packed week, with BASI trainers Giles and Pete, full of skiing, teaching and learning…and much to the groups surprise lots of fun!

The weather gods had their sun hats on this week providing excellent conditions on the glacier. The exam is about learning and developing technical skiing and teaching.

The course is action packed to improve both their own understanding and development as ski instructors. They learn how to design ski lessons so they can teach their clients in the best way possible. They’re assessed on how safe, fun and engaging their lesson is, plus the technical content of what they deliver in their session.

Hector seems to have his group management nailed in this photo!

We’re very lucky in Saas Fee to have amazing facilities and conditions and for this reason it draws in some of the biggest names in skiing. From Dave Ryding, who is the top Team GB Slalom skier, to other amazing World Cup ski racers to Freestyle champions at the top of the game. This week was all about the exam, and the trainees worked exceptionally hard to pass this, but most of them still found time to hunt their heroes down.

Tom meets Jesper (Freestyle genius). Who’s more excited!?

The two groups skied hard on the glacier each day and then returned back to the hotel for video analysis and lectures on ski theory. There is loads of information to process so everyone is usually far too tired to go out for the usual game of football or fitness after all this. Sometimes rest is the best way to prepare!

On Friday it was results day! A big celebration for the end of the exam week … and a well deserved beer!

Level 2 is a big step up and so all the trainees need to keep working hard and making the most of their time in Saas Fee … Monday is back to training!

Both the BASI trainers were excellent. A big thank you to Pete and Giles for being awesome and making the exam fun!

A few of the trainees even went so far to buy a present to say thanks … it’s safe to say Giles had a fan club!
