VERBIER 2018-19 – WEEK 6

Half way already! Wow, as always on the Peak Leaders course the time flies by and now we’re well into 2019! However the focus for the Peak Leaders trainees is still the same. Each day they have to work hard on their technical skiing and also learn how to deliver amazing lessons. Oh, and they also get to go to awesome places to ski, like this!

A massive amount of snow fell in Verbier this week and so the Peak Leaders got the chance to explore the fantastic off piste that the world famous resort has to offer. After all that is one of the many reasons why so many people choose to holiday and ski in Verbier!

Each group has a dedicated off piste day with coaches Will and Jake. The Peak Leaders learn essential off piste skills and how to use their avalanche equipment. It is a prerequisite of off piste skiing that each individual has a shovel, avalanche transceiver and probe. Of course an important part of off piste skiing is developing new skills to allow each person to charge through the thicker snow. Here is Jo putting his Faction skis (which he won at Pub Mont Fort a few weeks earlier!) through their paces. Powder!

Each week the Peak Leaders have a training session with Jake to work on their fitness and strength. Specifically core and leg strength as this is so important for skiing. The trainees have worked hard over the past few weeks both on and off snow to put themselves in the best possible place to tackle the BASI level 2 exam. Being physically fit and strong is an easy way to gain an advantage so fitness training is very important. And if you ever need proof that core exercises can be fun then look no further…
