SAAS FEE 2020 – WEEK 4: THE BASI LEVEL 1

It is the end of week 4 and a massive congratulations goes out to all our trainees, who have all passed the BASI Level 1 exam with flying colours!!

Although the pass rate for level 1 is usually high, it is not always 100%, so the whole team are super happy to move on to the next step, setting their sights on the level 2 exam.

It was a mixed week for weather, with some epic days early on but ended with some challenging conditions, stacks of fresh snow and super cold temps. However, the trainees battled through and left the examiner no doubts about their abilities as ski instructors. Here’s a few of the team looking pretty happy to end the week with the level 1 under the belt.

On Friday evening the trainees took the opportunity to celebrate, with some drinks out in Saas Fee, not exactly world renowned for its nightlife but a still a fun night out.

Fortunately though, the skiing in Saas Fee is truly world class and we are lucky enough this year, to be skiing off the glacier onto the lower slopes already! The storms that passed through last week left us with snow all the way down the valley and some epic conditions on the mountain.

Normally we’d have to wait until November to see Saas Fee looking like this..

With epic conditions over this weekend, the trainees we’re up early each morning to go and explore the newly opened terrain and some even found some little powder stashes!

Next up, we have a 3 week training block to kick on and work towards the BASI Level 2 instructor exam, we will be exploring the mountain more, looking at how to ski bumps, variable snow and steeps, in addition to the skiing we worked on for the level 1.

Unfortunately we had to say goodbye to Jerry this weekend as she was only booked for the level 1 package, but we look forward to skiing with her again in Verbier during one of the winter courses. Meanwhile Olivia has joined in her place for the level 2 and the whole crew are excited to meet her and get out on the mountain together.

With the amazing early snow conditions we are already getting super excited about the upcoming winter season, check out our winter courses in Verbier which are all filling up as fast as the snow is falling from sky! Verbier is pretty spectacular in winter, check it out…

And be sure to check back in a few weeks for the next update!
