SAAS FEE 2020 – WEEKS 5 to 7: TRAINING
After celebrating their level 1 wins the Peak Leaders were back to work as they prepare for their level 2 exam. The jump between level 1 and 2 is noticeable and so the trainees have been working hard to develop their skiing skills over the past 2 weeks.
However just before training started up again some fresh snow arrived and this meant that there were some amazing powder turns to be had. Here’s Peak Leaders coach Will shredding!
One of the great things about a Peak Leaders course is the variety of what’s on offer. This ranges from learning how to teach people to ski and fine tuning your communication and skiing knowledge through to improving your own technical skiing and trying out new challenges.
Over the 9 week course the trainees get the opportunity to learn about off piste skiing, freestyle skiing and also get a chance to race in a Giant Slalom course.
GS is always popular with everyone as the challenge of being ‘told’ where to turn adds an extra layer of skill to long turns. Here is George Ward getting some mad angs and nailing the gates!
COVID 19 has dominated 2020 and, like everywhere else, ski resorts have implemented important safety measures to try and ensure that lifts can run and are safe during these uncertain times.
Peak Leaders also recognize their responsibility to manage the situation in a clear and effective way. As such face masks and social distancing have been a feature of the past few weeks. We’ve still been able to train and ski though and, as this infographic shows, skiing is probably one of the best things you can do right now!
So the training part of the course is now coming to a close and the level 2 exam is within sight. This is what the trainees have been preparing for and now is the chance for them to put their new skills into practice.
As always no one can quite believe that the past 7 weeks have happened, as the course always flies by. All the Peak Leaders have worked extremely hard to get to this point and now everyone just needs to focus on their skiing and teaching on the level 2 exam.
Good luck everyone!
