WHAT IF I NEED TO QUARANTINE? EASY…

Verbier BASI Gap course quarantine policy

QUARANTINE RULES HAVE BEEN CHANGING QUICKLY,
BUT WE CAN ADAPT QUICKLY TOO

With the quarantine rules constantly changing all over the world, we wanted to explain what our plan was for trainees who need to quarantine when arriving in Switzerland.

So, what happens if your nation is on the list and you need to get into Switzerland for your Verbier course?

WHY WOULD IT HAPPEN AND WHAT WOULD IT MEAN?

The Swiss rules on quarantine are simple and clear.

They have a “high risk” list that is regularly updated.

The rule is (currently) that if you have been in a “high risk” country within the last 10 days, then you need to quarantine for 10 days upon arrival in Switzerland.

This could be because your home nation is a high risk nation, or you travelled through a high risk nation on your journey to Switzerland.

But if you just ‘transit’ a risk area or nation (we have been told this means staying less than 24 hours) you do not need to quarantine. But you should definitely confirm with the authorities.

Once you arrive in the airport you would be allowed to travel to your destination – if that required public transport then you would be obliged to respect the Swiss social distancing rules and wear a mask at all times.

WHAT WOULD PEAK LEADERS DO?

Well, first of all ten days in quarantine is not that long in the context of a ten week course.

So we would recommend you simply come out ten days before you course is due to start.

Depending on your course and if you were travelling alone or with friends, we would arrange a comfortable quarantine location where you would need to stay for the ten days.

The quarantine is fairly comprehensive – basically stay home and you cannot leave until you’re quarantine is over.

So we would arrange food deliveries if you weren’t catered, and we’d be in constant contact.

We would also help with the mandatory registration with the local authorities to inform them you are someone in quarantine.

As soon as the time is up you would be able to start the course – if everything has worked out with your initial travel that means just starting the course as normal.

WHAT ARE THE KEY FACTORS?

We think it would be vital to have access to outdoor space – a balcony, terrace or garden.

And we would be able to use our local contacts to arrange all this as cheaply as possible.

Naturally the cost would vary depending upon if you wanted to self-cater or be catered for, etc.

WHAT WOULD IT COST?

To give you an idea, if you were to quarantine for ten days we’ve put together four options to explain how it could work, but these aren’t confirmed prices.

Crucially if you think this might apply to you we can arrange this very quickly. But we would like to talk to everyone first – as quarantine might well be cancelled before the course starts.

WHAT WOULD YOUR DAY BE LIKE?

Of course we don’t think it’s a good idea to just shut people up in accommodation and not be in touch for ten days…

So quarantine would be supported on a daily basis.

It would include a morning fitness session every day and a theory session every afternoon. Plus socially distanced visits from Mentors and deliveries of food or groceries depending on your choice of package.

This would all be handled either remotely or at a distance, always sticking to local Swiss law.

WHERE CAN I FIND OUT MORE?

You can follow the risk list on the Swiss authorities page here.

And you can read there summary the rules on entering Switzerland here.

But we really want to make clear that whatever happens, safety is our top priority on any course. It’s what we do all the time – on the mountain and off it.

So the Covid situation is just a new and unexpected problem, but we are committed to keeping everyone as safe as possible, just like normal.

In adding is worth noting that Switzerland is currently rated the best prepared nation in the world for the Coronavirus.

As always, if you would like to talk about this and ask a few questions we are always happy to arrange a call.

So just get in touch.
